The 863 (Thurston) Squadron won gold and two team shields for Thurston Air Training Corps in the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Cross Country Championships at RAF Barnham last week.

Team captain Corporal Bronwyn Jacobs (17) achieved a personal gold medal for winning the three-mile race, while teammates Corporal Megan Hood (17), Cadet Courtney Price (16) and Cadet Rachel Smale (16) put in a sterling team effort to win the senior girls’ event and were awarded with the Wing Shield.

Thurston’s senior cadets Sergeant Kristian Royal (19), Sergeant Hugh Williams (19), Sergeant Stephen Yates (18) and Corporal Ryan Tutthill (17)won the team junior men’s shield, with a well-deserved personal bronze medal for Tutthill.

Corporal Chris Gwatkin (16), Corporal Will Lockyear (16) and new cadets Charlie Masters (13) and Reis Royal (13) ensured Thurston boys were represented and gained strong middle rankings in their section.

As a result of their outstanding performances, Jacobs and Tutthill have been selected to represent the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing team at the Air Cadet Central and East Regional Inter-Wing Cross Country Championships at RAF Cranwell on March 8.
