Reigning Intersteps Series Champion Matt Parry will step up to Formula Renault for the 2013 season, having re-signed with Fortec Motorsport.

Having won the title last year, the 18-year-old will now compete in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup and will be racing on many world famous circuits, including Silverstone and the Nurburgring.

Upon extending his contract, Bury St Edmunds-based Parry said: “Formula Renault is the logical choice for my career progression, and racing internationally will provide a new and interesting challenge.

“It’s not going to be easy, but I believe I’ve made the right choice in remaining with Fortec and know that I have everything in place to succeed.”

Last year Parry clinched the Intersteps crown with outstanding performances, breaking records for number of wins, points and podiums in 2012.

Since then he has been testing with the Daventry-based Fortec team, determined to be ready for the next chapter in his life.

The former national kart champion will be hoping to continue Fortec’s recent success in Formula Renault, after the team claimed the title in the 2012 NEC standings.

Fortec believe Parry will be able to deliever on the international stage.

Jamie Dye, Fortec’s team manager, said: “Fortec Motorsport are proud to retain Matt Parry for a second year.

“We are confident that Matt can win back to back titles — he is a very professional young man who has a lot to offer. We wish him good luck.”

The 2012 Northern European Cup schedule will take Parry to the Formula One circuits at Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, before culminating with three rounds at the equally famous Assen, Most and Zandvoort.

The opening round takes place over the weekend of April 5-7.
