Culford School’s Lucy Holder has been selected for England Under-18s’ 34-player squad.
It is the latest achievement in Holder’s rise through the hockey world — just last month she was selected for England Future Stars, a training programme for the country’s top-100 under-18s.
She has already represented England’s under-16 team against Belgium, Germany and Four Nations champions Holland at the high performance centres of Lilleshall National Academy and Bisham Abbey.
Her inclusion in the under-18s’ squad will see train throughout the year — both at home and abroad — with the England Hockey set-up and give her the opportunity to be selected for England’s Four Nations Tournament in Spain in July 2015.
Culford School’s head of hockey Matt Copping said: “What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Lucy is young for this group as, at 17, she is still eligible for the under-17 age group category.
“However, it is testament to the hard work Lucy puts in every day.
“She is incredibly dedicated and has a great attitude and always plays with a smile on her face.”
Fellow Culford pupils Maria Andrews, Ella Dowling and Alex Blumfield have all recently gained selection for the under-17s’ tier two high performance assessment camp squads.
n Thetford Ladies earned their first victory of the Empresa Norfolk Women’s League Premier Division — a 2-0 triumph over Norwich Dragons III.
Karen Hodgkinson and Sarah Nichol combined to set up Dawn Heavey for Thetford’s opening goal.
Player-of-the-match Sharon Brimson, Sophie Kelly and Bethany Rolfe made some good decisions to close down those attacks, while goalkeeper Flora Ridsdill Smith also stopped Dragons from finding the backboard.
Captain Paula Scott and Ella Shenton became move involved on the left in the second half and Kathy Hammond made it 2-0 from a scramble.
