Sunday saw the first of three rounds in the Suffolk Youth League 2015.

Bury St Edmunds were able to field three sides in the games, and had a mixed degree of success.

The games were all competitive and fairly tight, with only one of the games having a margin of more than one goal.

Many of the girls were making their first starts at under-12s but the step up, while challenging, did not prevent them playing some tenacious hockey.

Bury A were unfortunate to lose their first game but came back well to beat Sudbury, with Zynia Delglyn scoring both goals.

They finished the day in fourth place in the group but with plenty to play for in future rounds.

The B team are currently second in their group with three wins and a draw.

Helena Page-Blair made a great start at under-12 level, scoring the winning goal in two of her first three matches.

Zoe Troy also scored to win another game, leaving them second on goal difference at this stage.

Special mention must also be made of Lara Hopewell-Plant who made her competitive debut in goal and finished the day without conceding a goal.

The C team were one of only two C teams in the competition, and despite being hampered by not having a goalkeeper put up a great fight in all of their games, winning their last one thanks to two goals from Ruby Decent.

They are currently standing in third place in the group so this is a great effort.
