It was a successful day for the Spurling family, from Hengrave, in the Bury and District Bowls League’s annual Guinness Cup competition, held at Risbygate, on Sunday.
Husband-and-wife Tony and Val played with daughter Toni Anne, and their opponents in the final were the Greene King rink, skipped by Toni Anne’s husband Mark Henfield and partnered by Gerry Caplin and Bob Boor.
Hengrave lost only three of the 10 ends in the final and ran out comfortable winners by 12 shots to five.
Third place went to the Ixworth team of Matthew Smith, Pat Jennings and Ann Lilley that also lost only three ends to beat St Edmundsbury (Robbie Bryant, Robert Lillistone and Mick Giles) 10-6.
Earlier in the day, Greene King and St Edmundsbury were the only teams to win all four section matches.
In the other section, Ixworth and Tuddenham St Mary (Newton Kendall) had three wins going into game four, but both lost and that allowed Hengrave with three wins and a draw to contest the final.
George Swindles, president-elect of the league hosted an excellent event and his chosen charity was the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
