There was a gold and two bronze medals to celebrate as West Suffolk Wheelers staged the conclusion to the
cyclocross season in Bury.

In the final Eastern League meeting of the season, around the grounds of King Edward School on Saturday, home rider Harley Gregory took gold in the under-8 category.

There were also bronze medals for Charlie Knowler (under-10) and Barry Denny (over-60) on the day.

Tenacious riding over the course of the season saw Mike Bowen finish in third place overall in the veteran 45 to 50 year age group.

The event on a fast and challenging course also saw Richard Muchmore, riding for Revel Outdoors, finish second in the same category.

West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club finished ninth overall.

Every race was keenly contested, with Sam Asker finishing eighth in the youth race of under-14s and under-16s to round off a fine season.

With two years remaining in this category, he can be confident of further improvement.

Brother Matthew placed 22nd, with Robin Lines racing to finish 35th in the combined under-8 and under-10 race.

Charlie Knowler finished fourth with Harley Gregory 10th.

A brave ride from Oliver Griggs, returning from injury, resulted in him capturing 11th place, followed by Victoria Asker (15th), Jacob Taylor (17th), Grace Whitwell (18th) and Sophie Griggs (19th).

The veterans 45 to 50 year age category saw Mike Bowen finish in fifth, with Paul Watson (18th), Maclom McFarlane (40th), Ian Mortlock (44th), Adrian Grimwood (50th), Simon Elsworth (51st) and Boyd Nicholas (55th).

In the under-12 race, Thomas Macro (13th), Matthew Whitwell (17th) and Lianna Denny (27th) will all be very pleased with their season.
