Andrew Gilding will take on Scotland’s John Henderson in the first round of the William Hill World Darts Championship later this month.

The Walsham-le-Willows Sports Club thrower qualified for the £1,650,000 event via the Pro Tour Order of Merit and in Monday’s draw he was drawn up against world number 32 Henderson.

Gilding lost his place in the top 32 following an early exit in the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals at the weekend.

The 45-year-old lost out in a deciding leg, 6-5, to Vincent van der Voort, of the Netherlands, in the first round at Minehead last Friday afternoon.

Gilding will be making his third successive appearance in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC)’s World Championship, with his previous best run at Alexandra Palace, in London, reaching the second round last year.

The tournament starts on Thursday, December 15, with Gilding’s first round clash with Henderson scheduled for Saturday, December 17.
