EASTGATE boxing club’s Jack Gibbs secured the Class B Novice title as the club’s boxers had a successful weekend at three different venues.

The 21-year-old was awarded with the title after out-pointing Adrian Thompson, of Peterborough Arena club, with a convincing 21-9 scoreline.

He goes forward to the Zone finals where he meets Heart Of Portsmouth’s Greg Bridet in a four round encounter at Folkestone.

Ricky Zdrenka came out on top in a hard fought points victory over former professional Iraqi fighter Metz Sekiraqa of Hanwell ABC over three rounds at Hitchin Town Hall last Friday.

His opponent came out strongly and edged the first round but under instruction from corner man Dale Robertson, the Bury boxer worked his way back into the bout in the second round, forcing Sekiraqa to cover up on the ropes under pressure from good combination punching from the 33-year-old. The last round was similar, with Zdrenka winning a unanimous decision.

Jake Dykstra proved his recent form by out pointing highly rated Charlie Boon from the host club Chalvedon ABC.

Boon took the first round by forcing Dykstra onto the back foot, catching him with good shots on the ropes.

In the second round, the Bury based Liverpudlian used his angles to good effect catching his opponent with well timed punches.

He maintained the pressure in the third round, finishing the last 30 seconds with a barrage one twos through his opponent’s guard.
