Young West Suffolk Wheeler Charlie Knowler had a busy weekend across two different sports.

On Saturday, he finished fourth in the Tri Star 1 category (ages nine to 10) at a children’s aquathlon in St Neots before getting on his bike to take 19th place in Amis Velo Cycle Club’s cyclocross meeting in Colchester, three places ahead of clubmate Oliver Griggs.

Also in the cyclocross — the second round of the Eastern Cyclocross League — Sam Asker finished eighth overall and first under-14, ahead of brother Matt (21st), Fraser Elsworth (25th) and Thomas Macro (43rd).

In the under-10s’ group, Harley Gregory was fourth, Victoria Asker eighth overall and first girl, and Sophie Griggs 21st.

In the 40-49-year-olds’ race, Mike Bowen (27th) was first Wheeler home from Matt Denny (41st), Stu Grand (42nd), Chris Royston (50th), Richard Stiff (56th), Ian Mortlock (61st), Adrian Grimwood (63rd) and Giles Prime (DNF).

Revel Outdoors’ Richard Muchmore was first in the women/vets 50-plus race, with Paul Watson eighth, Barry Denny 38th, Sharon Calton 52nd, David Griggs 59th and Nicole Gregory 60th.
