County Upper under-14 girls are just one win away from clinching the National League East Conference title.

Weekend victories against Northampton Titans and Norfolk Iceni have left the team on the verge of glory.

On Saturday, they defeated Northampton Titans 69-55 with Grace Spooner top-scoring with 23 points.

She was supported by Lizzy Sanders with 18 points and Georgia Tansley, Alex Popova and Molly Kent with eight each.

Coach Darren Johnson said: “We knew this game was going to be tough, but again our team came together as a unit and were able to break the Titans down on both the defensive and offensive ends of the court.

“It was tough in the fourth quarter but I was proud of how the girls responded to pull off the win.”

On Sunday, they completed a perfect weekend by thrashing Norfolk Iceni 70-21 on the road.

County Upper’s Alex Popova bagged 27 points, supported by Grace Spooner with 18 points and Lizzy Sanders with 11 points.

County Upper Wolfpack under-16 boys defeated Southend Scorpions 74-25.

Lucca Beadle topped the scoring charts with 21 points, supported bybCameron Poolton with 18, Brandon Marshall 12, Corey Moye seven, Dan Moore six, and Phil Bugg and Patrick Laycock five.

Under-16 girls from County Upper ended their National League South East Conference home campaign with a 46-58 defeat against Thurrock.

County Upper’s highest scorer was Rebecca Steven with 14 points, supported by Eleanor Jones and Reiley Kenck with 10.

Megan Utting chiped in with six points, Alana Wilson four and Chloe Manning two.
