Bury St Edmunds Hockey Club were delighted to have so many senior players representing England in the Masters World Cup in Rotterdam and The Hague last week.

Norman Ballard, Chris Blake, Alan Dures (coach), George Hazel, Paul Calver, Sharon Holton and Katie Bedford all proudly wore their England kit in the various age groups from over-40s to over-75s, with every team bringing back a medal.

Paul Calver received his first England call-up this year for the men’s over-45 team, who narrowly missed out on gold.

Having drawn 3-3 with Australia in the final, they ended up as the silver medallists following the penalty shuffle.

Katie Bedford and Sharon Holton both represented the women’s over-50 side and were unbeaten throughout the tournament with victories over New Zealand, Wales, Australia, USA, Ireland and Holland.

A 2-1 win over Australia in the final secured England the gold medal and established themselves as one of the only teams to retain their title from 2012.
