Bumper entry fails to prevent Towler from triumphing

Despite the weather, the first round of Mildenhall Cycling Club’s Off-Road Championship attracted a bumper entry of more than 20 members.

Fifteen year-old Jake Towler continued where he left off last season, comfortably beating nearest rival Calum Mitchell-Fuller, in the under-18s section, finishing ahead of all but one of the men.

Meanwhile, Alexander Robb was third fastest in the under-18s, while the fastest lady home was Mandy Burchett.

Lee Woodcock powered round to win the men’s category in 10 laps, with Pete Clements a lap down in second place, albeit with Towler between them.

There are 11 further rounds in this season-long competition, with the best eight rides counting towards the final positions.

This weekend, Mildenhall Club’s annual dinner and prize presentation will be held at West Row Village Hall, on Sunday (1pm).
