Thetford’s Milo Clay has
become Attleborough Boxing Club’s first ever male county champion after claiming the Under-60kg Youth title.

A unanimous points decision helped the 17-year-old see off Lewis Meason to take home the Eastern Counties Youth Championship crown on Saturday.

The win has rewarded Clay with a place at the England Youth Championships later this month, where the Attleborough boxer will be in a field of eight competing to take the national crown.

And proud club chairman Jeremy Burton had nothing but praise for the teenager, who has already begun training for the three-day event.

“He’s got a great attitude and has done really well,” he said.

“I’m delighted for him to get to the national finals and it’s a credit to the coaches.

“We took a lot of supporters to Haddenham on Saturday and it was a big boost for him to win.

“We’ve now got our fingers crossed for the finals.

“Jon (Dennis, head coach) has got him on an intensive programme and Milo’s now got to eat, sleep and breath boxing.”

The championships begin a week on Friday at the Ferryhill Community Hub in County Durham with the quarter-finals, before the semi-finals on Saturday and the showpiece final being staged on the Sunday afternoon.

The continued success for the Attleborough club continues as another one of their boxers, Emma Dolan also prepares to compete for a national title after finishing second in the Swedish Golden Girls competition last month.

Levi Dennis, Marc Riley, Lily Devlin, Rhys Dolan and Santiago Weaver also look to begin their road to success when they represent the Attleborough club at the England Junior Championships in March.

The club have announced dates for two more of their popular home shows, with the first one being at the Connaught Hall on March 21.

And boxing returns to Thetford on May 30 at the Carnegie Room.
