Alex Morton caught a fully-finned rainbow trout of around 13lb on a size 16 black buzzer at Larkwood Trout Fishery this week.
This fish was caught in Glebe Lake, where a number of larger fish have been showing lately.
West Stow Lake has had larger numbers of fish being taken of a lower average weight.
Best flies by far this week have been damsel nymphs and black epoxy buzzers, the latter working well because several large buzzers have hatched in the warm weather — these will grow in number as the spring progresses.
There have also been hatches of small black flies, which have brought the fish to the surface in the afternoon.
n Blackdyke Trout Fishery has had a strange week with bright sunny calm afternoons producing hatches of small beetles and the trout feeding high in the water, rising all over the lake.
On the cooler, foggy mornings, black and green lures took most fish at the Hockwold venue.
There will be another Airflo Bank Masters heat on Saturday, March 29 — book on Iain Barr’s website at www.iainbarrflyfishing.co.uk
