Beyton’s Simon Ridley will be among those competing in the famous Three Peaks Yacht Race, which starts this weekend.
First held in 1977, the race sees teams of four or five sail from Barmouth to Fort William, as well as climbing the highest mountains of Wales, England and Scotland on the way to the finish.
“It is a truly gruelling race for both the sailors and the runners, especially if the winds and tides are against the boats during the weeklong adventure” Ridley said.
“The course is known to pose particular challenges from a sailing perspective that the casual observer would find hard to appreciate.”
Over the past 10 years Ridley has amassed an impressive number of nautical miles having completed several transatlantic crossings, including passages around the Baltic to Russia and races to the Azores and back.
Ridley’s crew will climb up and down Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis in their bid to win the Tillman Trophy.
