Gerry Barton was on double duty for West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club at the weekend.

In Cycle Club Breckland’s 10-mile open time trial on Saturday, he recorded 30 minutes 25 seconds to follow home clubmates Darren Davis (24.27) and David Young (28.02).

Less than 24 hours later, he made the trip to Lavenham for Cycle Club Sudbury’s Mad March Hilly 22-mile time trial.

On this occasion he put in a respectable time of 1.12.00, with clubmates Paul Rooke (54.57), Henry Wood (1.04.24), Mandy Bunn (1.07.44) and Martyn Wagner (1.11.26) finishing ahead.

Paul Watson continued his fine run of form at round four of the five by three mountain bike race hosted by UEA CC in Norwich, placing fourth in the senior/junior category.

Robin Lines was 31st and Richard Holland Jones 39th.

Carole Watson made a fine debut to finish fourth woman (seven laps), while Dick Lines (senior man) was 32nd and Rhys Holland-Jones (junior) sixth in their races.

Three intrepid Wheelers made the long trip to Duncton in West Sussex on Sunday for South Downs Cyclo Cross sportive — a very challenging 47-mile course including forest and farm tracks and bridleways, with 4,396 feet of climb.

Matt Denny (3.54.35), Giles Prime (4.25.00) and Darren Baker (4.20.16) all came through.
