Barrie misses out

Thetford Golf Club’s teaching professional Barrie Trainor failed to make the weekend cut at the BMW PGA Open in Surrey after a disastrous second round of 10-over-par 82 left him 13 over par.

Trainor, who topped the 2011 Irish Order of Merit, had been within two shots of the projected cut after Thursday’s opening round after carding a two-over-par 75 on the famous Wentworth course.

Trainor, who also teaches at Old Joe’s Golf Club in Cornard Tye, is due to play the €2,000,000 Irish Open, in Maynooth, County Kildare, on June 27.
