Alice Maguire will represent Great Britain next year after finishing first at the E Sprint Distance Triathlon Championship Qualifier on Saturday.

After representing GB at the World Triathlon final last year, Maguire had chosen not to compete this season and concentrate on her A-Level studies, while still keeping up with her training schedule.

The West Suffolk Wheelers member was among a highly-competitive field in the under-20 age group at Emberton Country Park, with spaces in the GB team available to the top three finishers of the race.

Maguire was in the top third of the standings after completing the 750m open water swim in 11 minutes, 49 seconds, before racing into first position with a time of 37.56 in the 20km road cycle.

The Hertfordshire University student finished the race with a time of one hour, 16 minutes and 18 seconds to take first place and qualify for the GB team in Geneva, Switzerland in July next year.
