A female Suffolk referee is eyeing future international appointments after returning from officiating abroad.

Mildenhall-based Abi Marriott took part in the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina as an assistant referee.

The 24-year-old, who is Level 3 qualified, said the highlight of her trip was acting as assistant referee at the tournament decider between Portugal and Sweden and the experience had given her a taste for more.

“The different techniques and knowledge I’ve learnt from experienced officials will be invaluable to my progression as a referee,” she said.

“The experience has given me motivation to become a full international FIFA referee operating on those types of tournaments regularly.”
