Marketmen barter for two new faces

Needham Market boss Richard Wilkins has said he is 'very pleased' by the arrival of two new players to bolster his squad ahead of a new season in the Evo-Stik Southern League Central Division.

Goalkeeper Jake Jessup (pictured, right) has been signed from Chelmsford City to replace the retiring Danny Gay, while midfielder Joe Marsden (pictured, left) has signed from Leiston.

Wilkins said Jessup, who was sent to a number of clubs on loan last season, including AFC Sudbury, is looking forward to the prospect of first-team action.

Meanwhile, utility player Marsden will mainly be used in midfield.

Wilkins said:"I'm just over the moon to have brought these two in. Both have played at Step 2 and both will offer something special to us.

"Last season was very difficult for us with injuries and I decided as the season progressed to save money – to turn the focus on next year.

"And that's what we're now doing. I always said we were about four or five new faces short of being a really competitive side.

"We need 16 players who are capable of playing anyone in the league and both Jake and Joe fulfil this."
