MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE: Lakenheath 177 lost to Mildenhall 231-9 by 54 runs: Mildenhall’s Kobus Scholtz hit 97 and took four wickets in a match-winning performance to heighten Lakenheath’s relegation fears.

The hosts are 32 points adrift at the bottom of Division One with just five games to play after Saturday’s 52-run defeat.

Mildenhall batted first and Alex Reynolds and Joe Reed added 33 before Reynolds (15) was caught by Shane Leech off Sam Bowers.

Scholtz (97) went in at number three and there were two costly mistakes as he was dropped on zero and later in the innings, before going on to fall just short of his century.

Jack Beaumont added 51 in their 221-9.

In reply, Lakenheath’s Jordan Joseph (24) fell to Tom Allen in the fifth over.

Ellis Firth (26) and Shane Leech (47) brought up the 100 at the halfway stage.

With Lakenheath on course for a surprise win as they passed 150, the introduction of Jack Beaumont proved decisive as he ended with 3-25 and Scholtz 4-61 as the last five wickets fell for just 13 runs.

n Division Three leaders Mildenhall II (152) lost to Woolpit II (176-9) by 24 runs in a reduced 42 overs per side game at Wamil Way.

Mildenhall’s reply looked set fair when opener Frannie Bester made 54 and his partner Matt Webb scored 40 but Woolpit’s first change bowler Alistair Stewart settled the result, claiming 7-40.

n Mildenhall III (113-2) continued their good run at the top of Division Five with an eight-wicket win against Nacton (112).

Young opening bowler Jon Allen claimed an impressive 6-28 off 13 overs, before James Taylor (50no) and Andrew Zajac (27no) guided them to victory.

n Mildenhall IV (97) suffered a three-wicket defeat at Eight Ash Green (103-7) in Division Seven, with opening batsmen Tom Heywood (44) and Paul Thurston (20) the only ones to contribute more than five runs.

The hosts made light work of the total, knocking it off in 19 overs.
