Bury came from behind in their Division Two North hockey clash at St Ives to claim a point in a 1-1 draw.

A goalmouth scramble saw Bury, who struggled to find the fluidity they frequently play with when at fortress Nowton Park, go a goal down.

Captain Nik Ciappi didn’t hold back at half-time and gave a rousing and passion-filled team talk which left his team fired up.

Bury dominated the second period and levelled matters when Kieran Devlin picked up the ball after a save from the St Ives keeper and calmly flicked it into the back of the net.

Chris Routs made some excellent saves between the Bury posts.

Bury II opened their Division Four North East campaign with a 3-0 victory over Newmarket II.

Steve Tassell scored a goal in each half with Paul Whiting scoring the third.

Bury III found themselves with eight players on the pitch at one stage against Harleston Magpies, but still came away with a 2-1 win.

Tim Thompson’s run and strike from top of the circle and a James Piercy effort saw Bury two goals to the good before Harleston pulled one back.

Some excellent defending came from Dan Gospal saw Bury hold on.

Bury IV failed to kick-start their campaign after a 7-1 reverse at Sudbury with Gilfillan on the scoresheet.

An end-to-end encounter saw Bury V share six goals with Ipswich and East Suffolk. Goals came from Adrian Moulam (2) and Tony Bass.

Bury womens’ first-team started their home East League Division Two NE campaign in fine fashion with a 6-0 victory over Dereham.

Sharon Holton came on and scored with her first touch of the match before adding second to put Bury 2-0 in front at the break.

After the break, Jo Chapman (2) and Maz Chapman (2) completed the rout.

A young Bury III outfit drew 1-1 with Cambridge City with Nicky Baker Munton on target and Polly Salmon starring.
