Hot putting lands trophy
The Bury St Edmunds Golf Club Pat Boult Trophy - for the higher handicaps - was contested by 10 ladies in the Stableford qualifier, with eight making the knock-out stage.
A tremendous final took place between Joan Hogarth and Elaine Smith, who had been playing partners in the qualifying competition and posted the two best scores.
Hogarth received three shots, and down the first hole it looked like she would need them as Smith was comfortably on the green for three before Hogarth raised her game and was ruthlessly efficient with her chipping and putting.
At the turn, the match was all square.
Hogarth then took the initiative and went 2up.
Smith tried to fight back but Hogarth’s putting was too hot so, after halving the next three holes, she took the 15th and 16th to win by 4&2.
The Juniors’ Snazell Cup also took place, attracting an entry of just five players.
The winner was Michael Gee (77-6=71), with runner-up Alex Wilkens (83-9=74).

n Bury Ladies produced some fine scores in Thursday’s Medal 1, especially Hannah Clark, who was round in a net 65, along with Julie Byford, in gross 79, a good result for a 12-handicap player.
