Henry believes Tigers can still achieve top-four finish
Rob Henry believes the Mildenhall Fen Tigers can still achieve a top four finish in the National League — providing they start translating recent improved efforts in defeat away from home into wins.
Although the West Row outfit, who will travel to Birmingham on Wednesday after their trip to Derbyshire to face Buxton Hitmen on Sunday, currently sit seventh and nine points adrift of the Kent Kings in the fourth and final play-off position, team manager Henry is refusing to throw in the towel just yet.
“I am under no illusions that if we get into the top four it will be a minor miracle,” said Henry.
“We need some good away results. If we get two or three away wins then it will certainly put us back on the trail again.
“I would hope we can win at Buxton. We’ve had some good meetings up there in the past and we’ve won there before.
“They’ve all seen the place before and they should go there on Sunday to ride hard as they know the points are there for the taking. I’d be really disappointed if we don’t win.”
The Fen Tigers ensured they will head to the Hi Edge Arena in search of that first away victory of the season in high spirits after recording their biggest win of the campaign with a 62-28 demolition of the Isle Of Wight Warriors on Sunday.
Despite guest number one Zach Wajtknecht taking first and last race wins for the visitors, the meeting was largely one-sided with the Fen Tigers securing the points by heat 11.
Connor Mountain top scored for the hosts with 14, with his only defeat coming in the finale to Wajtknecht, while he was ably backed up by double figure hauls from Connor Coles and Jon Armstrong.
“It was a good solid team performance and that’s not what we’ve had all the time at Mildenhall this year. Everybody achieved a lot of their goals,” added Henry.
“To have them all ride like that as a team puts some confidence back into them and will leave them feeling on top of the world.”
