Hengrave duo clinch maiden national title

Hengrave bowlers Martin Rumball and Stuart Gaught clinched maiden national title glory after being crowned English Bowls Federation indoor pairs champions at Newark.

Martin and Stuart qualified for the national finals by winning the Suffolk county title a month ago. In the first round at Newark, they won easily against opponents from Cambridgeshire 24-4 and followed that by defeating Huntingdonshire 20-11.

That led to a semi final against Durham and a score of 22-9. A Derbyshire pair including Gary Shepperson, a regular participant in national finals, provided the opposition in the final, but Rumball and Gaught continued their excellent form to triumph 20-11.
