Golden boy Rhys secures a medal haul

Rhys Turnbull-Bester enjoyed a medal laden weekend across the Disability Sports Events Eastern Region Championships and Special Olympics.

The 15-year-old Red Lodge athlete got his got his season off to the perfect start on Saturday with three gold medals in the under-16s 400m, 200m and 800m events in the Disability Sports Events Eastern Region Championsips in Chelmsford.

The Newmarket Jogger member, recorded personal best times in the 400m and 200m and gained qualification times for the national championships in Warwick next month.

Turbull-Bester, who attends the Priory School in Bury St Edmunds, saw his early season success continued on Sunday when representing Suffolk at the Special Olympics in London, taking part in two events and winning medals in both.

He took gold in the 200m and earned silverl in the 100m.

n Race walker Callum Wilkinson, who attends King Edward VI Upper School student in Bury St Edmunds, is set to compete for Great Britain for the first time on Sunday, in the European Cup in Murcia, Spain.
