Girls take on the challenge

Eight girls from Bury Spectrum Gymnastic Club were invited to compete against 53 other gymnasts from around England in the English Gymnastics Bronze Championships held in Leicester.

They fielded a junior team of: Kati Masson, Courtney Davey, Clara Saiu-Bell, Katie Rogers and Ashleigh Price, and an intermediate team of: Kayleigh Gazmuri-Symmes, Olivia Starr and Phoebe Maddever.

All the girls held their nerve to compete well on all the individual pieces of apparatus: floor, vault, bars and beam.

The competition was tough but Masson showed that bars were her speciality as she performed well to clinch third and finished ninth overall. Davey finished eighth overall with Rogers placing 33rd, Price 40th and Clara Saiu-Bell was in 46th place.

The intermediate girls finished with Gazmuri-Symm in overall sixth place, Maddever 13th and Starr 34th.
