Former RAF Lakenheath eyes Olympic medal

Ex-RAF Lakenheath High School pupil Greg Billington has set his sights on winning an Olympic medal at this year’s Games in Rio de Janeiro, writes Liam Apicella.

Now 28, the California-based athlete spent much of his childhood in England, living in the village of Six Mile Bottom, near Newmarket.

He won the Newmarket Heath Race as a 16-year-old in 17 minutes 50 seconds and honed his triathlon skills with the Cambridge Triathlon Club, before securing his place in the three-man USA squad for Brazil last month.

Although Billington will be making his Olympic debut, that has not stopped him from aiming high. “Nobody goes to the Olympics without thinking about medals,” he said.
