NEEDHAM Markets’ Duane Wright is hopeful of maintaining his recent goal scoring exploits ahead of tomorrow’s top of the table encounter with Grays Athletic at Bloomfields (3pm).

The summer signing from Hadleigh United has hit a rich vein of goal scoring form recently, following up his double in the 4-0 win over Thamesmead Town with another brace, in the following league match, his seventh in all competitions, away to Waltham Abbey on Saturday, in another emphatic 4-0 victory.

Grays Athletic’s 1-1 draw away to Harlow Town on Tuesday night kept Needham top of the league by virtue of their superior goal difference and although Wright has had to get to grips with playing on the right hand side of midfield, he is relishing adding to his goal tally tomorrow.

“I am really excited about the match tomorrow, it is a big game and one I think we are all looking forward to,” he said.

“I am enjoying some good form at the moment so hopefully that can continue.

“I have just been working hard on getting used to playing out wide on right but I am scoring goals and I am confident of keeping that going.

“The whole squad is in a confident mood at the moment, we are playing some really good football and getting some great results.”

The Marketmen stretched their consecutive winning streak in the Ryman League Division One North table to seven games with the victory over Waltham Abbey and despite admitting the squad are not focusing too much on the table, he revealed promotion is certainly the target.

“There hasn’t been a lot of talk about us being top of the league or promotion but that was certainly our aim at the beginning of the season,” he added.

“I think as a squad we are definitely good enough to do that, it is just about keeping up the momentum going and make sure we keeping winning our matches.

“If we can beat Grays in tomorrow’s match then it will be a huge boost to everyone at the club and will keep pushing towards our aim.”
