FA VASE SECOND ROUND: Walsham-le-Willows 1 Haringey Borough 4: Walsham-le-Willows bowed out of this year’s FA Vase competition to Haringey Borough on Saturday.

The visitors took the early initiative and they did not have to wait long for the lead when Anthony McDonald cut in from the left and curled a shot into the top corner.

The Willows nearly equalised when Nathan Clarke brought the ball out from defence and fed Ryan Foster, who crossed into the box, but Clarke’s good header was well tipped over by Ashley Harris in the Haringey goal.

Borough got their second goal when more good work from McDonald saw him whip in a great cross that was headed in by Dean Fenton.

Haringey were still looking very dangerous on the break and increased their lead
when a cross from the right found the unmarked Chris Benjamin to convert easily.

Fifteen minutes from time, a free-kick from Foster found Clarke unmarked and he headed past Harris to give Walsham some hope.

However, this was extinguished when Fenton fired past Duncan McAnally.

Walsham return to action in the Thurlow Nunn Premier when visiting Wivenhoe Town tomorrow (3pm) before travelling to Felixstowe and Walton United in the second round of the Red Insure League Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).

n Walsham’s reserves lost 3-2 at their counterparts from Gorleston in Chell Trophy North Group on Saturday, despite a brace for Luke Austin.
