RICHARD Wilkins admitted he got his team selection wrong this week, but will not make the same mistake twice.

The Blues’ boss saw his side draw home matches with Wealdstone and Wingate and Finchley, heaping pressure on this Easter weekend’s clashes with Met Police and Lowestoft Town.

Bury travel to Met Police tomorrow (3pm) before hosting Suffolk rivals Lowestoft on Easter Monday (3pm) as they bid to secure their place in the Ryman League Premier Division play-offs.

Wilkins said: “I should have mixed the team around a bit on Tuesday night against Wingate and rested a few who needed a little bit of a breather.

“During the day I was thinking of starting three or four who have been on the bench lately and freshen things up a bit.

“I regret not doing that and there will be some changes this weekend.”

That means Tuesday night substitutes Connor Hall, Billy Clark, Kieran Leabon and Callum Kearns could earn starts tomorrow along with Roscoe Hipperson, who returns from suspension, when the Blues travel to a Met Police side whose play-off ambitions have taken a hit by a run of four defeats in five matches.

Bury must up their game dramatically to get back on form, even if their draw with Wingate on Tuesday ended with a touch of controversy when the corner from which they scored was taken well outside the quadrant and the scorer, David Laird, had been walking on a tightrope all game after a number of robust challenges.

“Sometimes I find it unbelievable some of the things that go on,” said Wilkins, who also criticised his defenders for conceding the corner and then not dealing with it.

“We can’t continue to play at that level otherwise the play-offs will be a tricky one,” he added. “It’s the business end of the season and the next five games are the biggest yet.”

Craig Nurse is likely to get some more minutes under his belt with team Bury as he continues to build his fitness after an ankle injury, while long-term absentee Elliot Hunter has undergone his knee operation this week.
