Bury Town went down to their second league defeat of the season at home to Whitehawk on Saturday.

John Sands’ seventh-minute header from a corner gave them a narrow lead going into the break but the Blues conceded twice early in the second half and they added a third direct from a corner.

Bury had Jordan Patrick sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card to compound their misery.

Needham Market responded to their 6-1 home defeat to Waltham Forest in midweek with a 3-0 win at Thamesmead Town to leave them 12th in Ryman League Division One North.

Duane Wright, Oli Fenn and Keiran Lebon were all on target for the Marketmen.

In the Thurlow Nunn League both Thetford Town and Walsham-le-Willows came away with three points from their away games, Thetford 3-2 winners at Godmanchester Rovers and the Willows triumphing 3-1 at Wivenhoe Town ahead of the two victorious mid-table sides meeting at Summer Road on Wednesday night.

Team Bury missed out on the opportunity to book a quarter final place in the First Division Knockout Cup as they lost 5-3 at Swaffham Town.

Meanwhile in the First Division strugglers Stowmarket Town drew 2-2 at home to Swaffham Town.

In the Premier League Norwich City are 14th after a Bradley Johnson 44th-minute header was enough to beat Stoke City at Carrow Road.

Mick McCarthy’s reign at Ipswich Town got off to a winning start at Birmingham City as the Suffolk side ended a run of 12 games without a win at St Andrew’s, though it was not enough to move them off the bottom of the Championship table.

In the rugby Bury St Edmunds made it 10 straight wins in London One North with a crushing 77-0 victory at Basildon.
