James Solomon and captain Chris Snelling both scored two tries as Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club remained within a point of Westcombe Park at the top of National Three London and South East.

The Suffolk side’s 36-14 triumph over Tonbridge Juddians was their sixth in a row.

In football, Bury Town crashed out of the FA Trophy with a 3-1 defeat to Hendon in the first qualifying round.

Although Hendon are riding high in the Ryman League Premier Division, the relegation-threatened Blues took the game to them after falling behind to Belal Aite-Ouakrim’s second-minute strike.

Joe Benjamin hit the crossbar before Phill Weavers equalised, but a pair of goalkeeping errors by Steve Fenner in the second half saw Lee O’Leary rise above the young custodian to head in before Aite-Ouakrim took advantage of a weak parry to convert his second.

Needham Market thrashed bottom club Burnham Ramblers 5-0 in Ryman One North, with Luke Ingram, Sam Newson, Kem Izzet, Ollie Fenn and Ryan Crisp all on target.

Mildenhall Town held champions Hadleigh United to a goalless draw in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, while there was a 2-1 defeat for Team Bury at new leaders Debenham LC in the First Division.

Norwich City and Ipswich Town returned to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship.

Cameron Jerome got both goals for the Canaries as they saw off Bolton Wanderers 2-1 on Friday night, while David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy were on target in Ipswich Town’s 2-0 success at bottom club Blackpool.
