Bury Town pushed high-flying Dulwich Hamlet all the way before slipping to a 3-1 defeat, thanks to more individual errors.

There was little in the way of action in the first half, although Dulwich’s Michael Kamara was lucky not to see red for hauling down Joe Benjamin, who instead was penalised by the referee.

The Blues’ defence switched off on the stroke of half-time to allow Serge Makofo to drive home, but Remi Garrett took Benjamin’s fine pass seven minutes after the interval and slotted home the equaliser.

However, Bury’s hopes of a stunning win were ruined when Alex Archer and Milton Elenge got in a mix-up, allowing Harry Ottoway to slide in and score.

That visibly deflated the hosts and Hamlet’s Ethan Pinnock swivelled and netted the visitors a third in the 83rd minute.

After the match, manager Ben Chenery confirmed striker John Sands would be leaving the club, less than two months since returning.

In his initial spell at the Blues, Sands topped the Ryman Premier scoring charts during the 2012/13 season.

Needham Market slipped back off the top of Ryman One North as they lost 1-0 at Brightlingsea Regent and Harlow Town drew 1-1 with Wroxham.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, James Dean fired Thetford Town to a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Wanderers, while Mildenhall Town edged out struggling FC Clacton by the same scoreline.

Walsham-le-Willows lost 1-0 at home to table-topping Norwich United.

In the First Division, Stowmarket Town lost 2-1 at Saffron Walden Town.

Ipswich Town moved back within two points of the summit of the Sky Bet Championship table thanks to a 2-1 triumph at Fulham, while Norwich City jumped into the play-off places with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
