Bury Town and Walsham-le-Willows are hoping to beat the weather tomorrow but a host of other games have already fallen victim to frozen pitches.
The cold snap continues to play havoc with the local outdoor sporting calendar with Thetford Town’s schedule home game with Godmanchester Rovers and Mildenhall Town’s trip to Felxistowe & Walton United among the games which have already seen early postponements.
Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club are hopeful that more promising conditions at Ruislip will allow their London One North fixture to go ahead on Saturday (2.15pm) but it is subject to a pitch inspection on Friday lunchtime, possibly followed by a further one on Saturday morning.
Bury Town Football Club had around 15 volunteers out clearing the snow off the Ram Meadow pitch from 5pm on Thursday and have requested more help today (Friday), with anyone interested asked to call the club direct on 07712108067 or go down to the ground, where tools will be provided.
Chairman Russell Ward told the Free Press at just before 11am that around 70 per cent of the pitch is now clear of snow but the surface had become frozen underneath from overnight.
He said a pitch inspection is being arranged for around 10.30am on Saturday ahead of the scheduled game with Concord Rangers (3pm) but any more snow over night would almost certainly see a postponement.
Games still ON as off 11am Friday:
Bury Town v Concord Rangers
Needham Market v Ilford
Walsham-le-Willows v Gorleston
Fakenham Town v Team Bury
Halstead Town v Stowmarket Town
Ruislip v Bury RFC
Felixstowe & Walton United v Mildenhall Town
Thetford Town v Godmanchester Rovers
