Bury Town let a one-goal lead slip to lose 2-1 at home to the 10 men of table-topping Maidstone United at Ram Meadow last night (Tuesday).
Ben Chenery’s side flipped the Ryman League Premier table on its head when Joe Whight put the hosts ahead on 51 minutes.
And the bottom-placed Blues’ hopes of a shock win over the league leaders were boosted when Maidstone’s Billy Bricknell was shown a straight red card five minutes later.
However, the visitors responded with two goals in quick succession to snatch all three points, as Jack Parkinson’s 71st-minute goal was followed by an excellent free-kick from Frannie Collin two minutes later.
Needham Market missed out on the chance to go top of Ryman League Division One North table, losing 3-1 away at play-off hopefuls Dereham Town.
The Marketmen had won their last six matches heading into last night’s trip to Aldiss Park, but went 1-0 down following Craig Bussens’ 10th-minute strike.
Needham fought back after the break when top goalscorer Sam Newson levelled the tie on 54 minutes, before Ryan Hawkins and Sam Borrer both netted in the final 10 minutes for the hosts.
