Waltham Abbey 0 Needham Market 4

NEEDHAM Market had the perfect warm up for their mammoth top-of-the-table clash with Grays Athletic tomorrow (3pm), by thrashing Waltham Abbey on their travels.

The Marketmen had the better of the first quarter of an hour and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 21 minutes when Duane Wright headed home an inch-perfect cross from Ollie Fenn.

Abbey keeper Ricketts did well to keep Bloomfield out, but could do nothing when Bradley Barber flicked Angleo Harrop’s corner on for Sam Newson to score after 29 minutes.

Both sides were playing some decent football on a roller coaster of a pitch, but Needham were creating all the chances.

The home goal had a lucky escape in the 32nd minute when Ricketts denied Danny Bloomfield before, from the rebound, Wright hit the bar and Newson’s header was cleared off the line.

The third goal arrived when Wright headed home a Danny Thrower corner 11 minutes before the break.

Needham keeper Andy Plummer tipped Coley’s shot over to preserve the visitors’ 3-0 lead going into half-time.

Needham controlled the second half, giving the hosts no opportunity to get back in the game.

Ricketts denied Newson after 50 minutes before again denying Bloomfield after 69 minutes.

The fourth goal arrived in the 75th minute when Harrop and Deakin Napier combined to feed Jose Espinosa to coolly slot home.

Napier, Harrop and Espinosa tested Ricketts in the last 15 minutes as Needham cruised to another fine win.
