Spirited show by injury-hit side

Have your say

Cray Wanderers 2 Bury Town 0

DESPITE a spirited second-half display by a weakened side, Bury came away with nothing after Cray netted either side of half-time.

Cray did most of the early attacking. Marcus Garnham was the busier keeper and saved well from Tommy Whitwell after a sweeping move by the home side.

Sam Long fired just over and Garnham saved from a Jack Clark free-kick as Cray continued to press.

The hosts took a deserved lead on 34 minutes with a superb angled drive from Leigh Bremner that went in off the crossbar.

Garnham prevented a second goal with a fine save from another Clark free-kick.

Both Lee and Sam Reed went close for Bury as they started the second half brightly, before Cray got the decisive second goal.

Bremner was fouled by Lee Reed as he ran into the box and Whitwell scored from the spot.

Bury responded well and substitute Ryan Clark forced a good save from Andy Walker before the keeper made a further good stop to deny Lee Reed.

Cray were reduced to 10 men on 75 minutes when Chris Saunders was shown a straight red for a bad tackle on Craig Nurse.

Bury continued to push forward and Walker again saved well from Billy Clark.

Sam Reed and Lee Smith both fired over from good positions, before yet another save from Walker prevented a Lee Reed goal as the home side held on for the victory.
