Bury Town 3

Bury Town gained their third consecutive victory thanks to a Craig Parker penalty late in the first half and two strikes by John Sands after the break.

After a quiet start, Bury had the first strike on goal when Sam Reed’s free-kick was well saved by Nick Hanann.

Much of the play was in the cental third with few chances created.

But Carshalton were looking the more dangerous, with 17-year-old Tommy Bradford pulling the strings, and it was he who crossed for Ola Sagbanmu to head home after 23 minutes.

Bradford had two shots saved by goalkeeper Marcus Garnham and Sagbanmu went close as the Bury defence struggled to contain them.

Parker blazed over from close range on 39 minutes, but made amends two minutes later when he scored from the spot following a handball offence.

Five minutes after the restart, Bury took the lead when Sands ran on to a long ball from Parker and scored from a narrow angle.

Six minutes later, Sands increased the advantage when he headed home at the far post from Sam Reed’s cross.

The hosts came back strongly and Bradford again went close with a dipping drive, but they were unable to penetrate a solid Bury defence and the visitors held on comfortably to take the points.
