Two young Suffolk referees have been chosen to officiate at a national tournament on Sunday.
George Byrne from Mildenhall and Abi Marriott from Brandon will be officiating at the National Association of Stable Staff’s national finals day at the Ricoh Arena, in Coventry.
The pair, both 21, received the invitation from the Betfair NASS league after officiating an England (NASS) versus Ireland (ISSA) encounter at Newmarket Town last November.
There will be six teams involved on Sunday – East Anglia, South East, South West, Midlands and Wales, North West and Scotland and the North East.
A total of nine 11-a-side, 30-minute games will be played on the day, with Byrne and Marriott taking charge of two games each, and acting as assistant referees in a further three games.
“The Ricoh will be the biggest stadium I have officiated at yet, I’m relishing the opportunity,” said Byrne, while Marriott added: “Along with the Suffolk Women’s Cup Final, it’s definitely one of the most prestigious appointments I’ve had.”
