Needham Market boss Danny Laws said he hopes to have wrapped up a new signing before tomorrow’s game at home to Aveley (3pm).
Laws told the Free Press that paperwork for Ilford midfielder, Kabir Jeetoo, should clear for Saturday’s Ryman League Division One North game.
The 21-year-old, who is based in North London, impressed Laws when the Marketmen faced Ilford on March 6.
“He caught our eye in both games against us and we made a seven-day approach last week,” he said. “We spoke to him after the last game and he seemed keen to play for us.
“He’s got a lot of energy, good strength and some quality on the ball, so he should fit in.”
The signing is good news for Needham after a frustrating weekend which saw their game against Romford on Saturday postponed.
They were hoping to make the most of the rest against Brentwood Town last night, in what Laws said would be ‘a close encounter’.
Tomorrow’s game will be another stern test, with Aveley riding high in fourth while Needham sit in 10th, having gone seven unbeaten before last night’s game.
“They are a side right up there,” said Laws. “It’s going to be a tough game but we are hungry and have got some really good home form going now.”
Needham talisman Sam Newson (ankle) is an injury doubt ahead of the game, the first of a 10-game run-in — as well as Laws’ final games in charge.
“We want to finish in the top 10 and establish ourselves as a top half side,” he said. “The young players will have to put a real effort so we can keep this run going.”
