Needham Market 3

POTTERS Bar were looking to avenge their 7-0 defeat on the first day of the season at Bloomfields, but were unable to do so as Needham Market secured a narrow 3-2 victory.

The visitors took the lead after 12 minutes when Duane Wright headed home a Bradley Barber free-kick.

Wright, Angelo Harrop and Sam Newson all had chances, but failed to test Burbridge as the visitors took a comfortable 1-0 lead into the break.

Needham doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half when Burbridge parried Bradley Barber’s shot into the path of Harrop to sidefoot in from close range.

However, against the run of play, the home side reduced the deficit after 64 minutes when James Gershfield broke away from a Needham corner, brushed aside Jack Wilkinson’s challenge and slid the ball past the advancing Liam Jones.

And they levelled the scores 15 minutes later when Reece Loudon curled in a 20-yard free-kick past the helpless Jones.

The match was decided a minute later when Joe O’Brien turned a Deakin Napier corner into his own net.

This left Needham to comfortably defend the last 10 minutes to take all three points.
