Mundford left to rue what could have been following cup disappointment

Have your say

Mundford were left to rue a golden opportunity of lifting silverware after slumping to a 4-1 Norfolk Junior Cup defeat to Catfield at Norwich City’s Carrow Road.

In a first-half completely dominated by Mick Rumsey’s charges, the lively Ben Cole opened the scoring with a low angled drive after 27 minutes as the Stags looked set to go on and win the tie.

However, Adam Thompson’s equaliser right on half-time Catfield’s first shot on target, proved a catalyst as Mundford were punished for not seizing the opportunity when on top.

A further goal from Thompson straight after the interval was added to with a double from Chad Pillar as the match completely drifted away from Mundford.

Cole then completed his transition from hero to villain, collecting a second yellow card in injury time to cap off a truly disappointing evening for the club.
