Bury Town kicked off the new Ryman League Premier Division season in disappointing fashion after going down to a 2-0 defeat away at Hendon.

In Ben Chenery’s first game in charge since taking over from Richard Wilkins, first half gaols from Leon Smith (19) and Kezie Ibe (25) proved enough to seal the home side all three points.

In Division One North, there was better fortune for Needham Market as Luke Ingram’s goal directly from a corner secured Mark Morsley’s men a winning start to the season with victory over Great Wakering Rovers.

In the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Walsham-le-Willows, Mildenhall Town and Thetford Town all got off to winning starts.

The Willows secured a 2-0 success away at Ely City, while Thetford also enjoyed victory on the road, overcoming FC Clacton 2-1 and Mildenhall cruised to a 5-1 thumping of Brantham Athletic.

In the First Division, Stowmarket Town slumped to a 2-0 defeat at March Town United but Needham Market Reserves and Team Bury secured victories beating Dereham Town (2-0) and Woodbridge Town (2-0) respectively.
