Mildenhall Town stretched their unbeaten run to five games with an impressive win at in-form Stanway.

Hall’s Steve Holder had the game’s first chance after seven minutes when Aaron Turner’s perceptive pass released him down the inside left channel, but he dragged his shot wide.

The hosts’ first threat came five minutes later when Michael Brothers picked out Jamie Beecham, but the striker missed his kick and the visitors made the most of the reprieve by opening the scoring in spectacular fashion on 24 minutes.

Craig Nurse was fouled 25 yards from goal and dusted himself off to blast a sweet strike into the net off the far post.

Town were on top and extended their lead six minutes before half-time following a neat passing move.

Allicion Blake did superbly to retain possession under pressure on the right flank and from there the ball was transferred via Holder to the onrushing James Paterson, whose low cross was converted by Turner — the goal just reward for the midfielder’s outstanding performance.

Shortly before the interval, Josh Pope made a superb double save to maintain his side’s two-goal advantage, getting down well to keep out a Craig Hughes free-kick and the follow-up from Adam Hampson.

The second period was a tame affair, but a strong Mildenhall rearguard held Stanway at bay to rack up a second clean sheet of the week.

n Hall host Felixstowe and Walton United on Saturday (3pm).
