Needham Market manager Mark Morsley is expecting a reaction from his players when they host Burnham Ramblers tomorrow (3pm).
The Marketmen (second) lost their unbeaten away league record in a 2-0 defeat at Aveley on Saturday, which left them four points adrift of leaders Harlow Town in the Ryman League Division One North table.
But Morsley believes Needham will ‘put it right’ when the bottom-placed Ramblers visit Bloomfields this weekend.
“It’s a cliché, but the players know that they were below par on Saturday,” revealed the Needham boss. “We had good support at Aveley, but we let them down with a poor performance. It’s the players’ responsibility to put it right on Saturday.”
Paul Preston and Petrit Elbi put the hosts 2-0 up after 17 minutes at the Mill Field, with Needham’s threats of a comeback in the second half denied by several good saves from Aveley goalkeeper James Marrable.
“We were very poor,” admitted Morsley. “It was a bit of a disappointment as I was expecting a much better performance. The first half in particular was poor.
“We’ve had a week off from matches and the boys have trained hard.”
The Marketmen have made the most of a rare week without a midweek match, with training sessions on Tuesday and last night ahead of tomorrow’s Ramblers clash.
Needham welcome back Danny Cunningham in an otherwise unchanged squad from Saturday’s defeat.
The striker was not match fit for the last two games, but is ready to return to the fold this weekend.
n Needham Market Reserves ended a seven-match losing run in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, with an impressive 2-1 win over March Town United on Saturday.
Goals from Taylor Bannister and Kyran Field cancelled out Denny Escorcio’s strike for March (fifth) at Bloomfields.
The victory moved Kevin Horlock’s side up to 15th in the table.
Needham return to action with the visit of Cornard United a week on Saturday (3pm).
