Bury Town swiftly knocked back the disappointment of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to East Thurrock United by seeing off Ryman Premier play-off rivals Canvey Island at Park Lane last night.
In freezing conditions, the Blues made the treacherous journey to south Essex, a happy hunting ground for them since promotion to the third tier of the non-League pyramid.
Canvey are yet to score a goal against Bury, and it was the prolific partnership of Sam Reed and John Sands who proved to be their undoing.
Reed delivered his 13th assist of the season for Sands to bag his 18th goal of the campaign to lift Bury to seventh, just one point behind second in the tightest of battles to reach the play-offs.
Former professional Richard Logan also made his debut in attack for his hometown club, hours after signing a deal at Ram Meadow. Full report, reaction and Logan news in Friday’s Free Press.
