Bury Town FC hit their visitors for seven on Thursday, defeating Histon in a pre-season friendly.
A young Cambs side showed plenty of determination and commitment in the opening period before Ian Cambridge broke the deadlock with a simple tap-in following a cross from Sam Reed in the 25th minute.
Two minutes later the Blues increased their lead when the impressive Lee Smith opened his account in style following a left-foot stirke that left the visiting goalkeeper floundering.
Five minutes later Smith made it 3-0 after driving a low ball through a crowded area and into the back of the net.
That signalled the end of any Histon threat and Lee Reed was quick to take advantage and he opened the Histon defence. Only a reflex save prevent Smith from completing his hat-trick before the break.
Two minutes into the second half Sam Reed put his name on the scoresheet and Scott Chaplin's cross found Sam Nunn who duly made it 5-0.
Nunn was in the right place in front of the Histon goal for a rebound that gave him his second and Danny Cornwall deservedly finished off Bury's scoring following a phase of fine passing and movement by the hosts.
Danny Bradford scored Histon's consolation goal.
Tomorrow Bury Town travel to Braintree before completing their series of pre-season friendlies against Ridgeons League Premier Division newcomers Walsham-le-Willows at Ram Meadow on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).
