DIVISION ONE NORTH
Needham Market 4 Ilford 2
NEEDHAM Market stretched their unbeaten run in Ryman League Division One North to five matches after a convincing 4-2 victory over strugglers Ilford.
The opening goal arrived in the 24th minute when Lee McGlone fired home from 20 yards.
Sam Newson struck the bar from distance five minutes later as Needham continued on top but were lacking quality with their final ball.
The home side doubled their lead when Gavin Johnson exchanged passes with Rhys Barber before crossing for McGlone to add his second on 34 minutes after Newson had scuffed the initial opportunity.
Ilford were offering little offensively and it was no surprise when McGone completed his hat-trick seven minutes before the break, getting the faintest of touches to Danny Thrower’s cross.
Needham Market put the match out of Ilford’s reach four minutes after the break when Duane Wright capitalised on a defensive error to make it 4-0.
Thrower drew Anguilley in to action after 63 minutes forcing the tall stopper in to a good save before Danny Bloomfield had a good chance to add to Needham’s tally but his header was straight at the keeper from Newson’s fine run and cross five minutes later.
Ilford pulled a goal back after 77 minutes when poor marking allowed Rob Carter to rise unmarked to head a Loui Hazelwood cross home.
Both sides created half chances before Needham completed the substitutions for the final six minutes of the 90.
Newson struck the post in the last minute, but Ilford finished the scoring when Sunday Matthew Olanipekun ran through unchallenged a minute in to additional time.
n On Tuesday, Needham made it six matches without loss after beating Waltham Abbey 3-1. Bloomfield, McGlone and Johnson scored.
