JACK Cawley has targeted a regular starting spot in the Bury Town line-up after concluding his impressive trial period by signing for the Blues.
The 18-year-old former Leyton Orient trainee impressed against Colchester United’s man mountain Kayode Odejayi on Saturday, the same day he pledged his future to Bury.
And he is hoping to get the chance to impress again when competitive football begins on August 20.
“I want to get myself in the first team squad, push to start as many games as I can and try to win the league so we can play in the Conference leagues next season,” said Cawley.
After leaving the O’s, the teenager spent some time in Ireland with Bohemians before returning to England and featuring for FC Clacton in the Ridgeons League Premier Division at the back end of last season.
He has been with Richard Wilkins’ men for the whole of pre-season and featured in the Blues’ two high profile games, against Ipswich Town last Wednesday and Colchester United on Saturday.
Although Bury conceded three goals in each of those matches against professional opposition, Cawley looked assured at the back, particularly against the U’s on Saturday, and has clearly been enjoying his time in Suffolk.
He said: “There is a good bunch of lads here – one of the best I’ve been involved with. It’s a good young squad with players who have good futures ahead of them.”
